I have visited Africa only once - Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa. In Kenya I experienced the wildlife at Masai Mara, South Africa I circled in a rental car and stayed in friendly guest houses. The owners were white, the staff black. For a European this division of roles was striking. But I lost my heart in Zimbabwe: what wonderful people. Then Mugabe changed it all; my young, black and talented friends are now dead. AIDS, poverty and the hardships of the brutal regime killed them. Most of Zimbabwe's musicians of the golden age have died. An unbelievable loss of talent.
