Artefacts, old and new, natural or manmade, and their shape, surface, colour or position intrigue me. I try to portray them by isolating them visually from their environment, so that the interplay between the object and its surroundings adds some extra dimension. Black and white render an image more graphic, and impart more visual drama than colour. Different colours appear here in different shades of grey and unify the image. Black and white was the natural choice for artistic photography up to the 1970s.
