My first Asian trip in 1983 took me to Thailand - it was to be the first of many. In 1987/88 and then again in the 2000s Thailand became my Southeast Asian core country - exotic, scenic, full of life. Travelling is easy and rewarding, hotels and food are cheap, and it is warm. And then there are the women. Thailand - land of women. In no other country are western men so warmly received, if not always for the right reasons. I have travelled extensively, always by local bus and train. But the country has changed substantially over the years.
