Urban spaces are manmade. It is up to the photographic eye to isolate the visually unusual or bring together differing elements for a convincing image that can stand on its own. Light and shadow of course play an important role. I am attracted by big-city sights: massive buildings, concrete, glass, sculptural objects, billboards, the interplay of contrasting elements. Black and white photography favours these subjects.
