I returned to Southeast-Asia in 2000 and came again on a regular basis, mainly in the winter months. With many places it was a revisit to the 80s. A lot of the infrastructure had changed - the abundance of ATM's made life easier, roads were sealed, those blaring bus horns were on the retreat. And with it the lovingly painted trucks and a lot more of the colourfulness of former times. Affluence and modernity, global trends and behaviour were getting a grip on traditional life styles. It is arrogant to deny this to people, who are now happy to rise from shattering poverty.
