When photographing shop window dummies one is in the realm of falseness: ersatz people, sometimes abstract, sometimes hyper-realistic. In 1980s London the latter was chic, so I walked the pavements at night in search of classy ones. I must have been a strange sight, crouching in crooked positions, trying to eliminate price-tags and unwelcome reflections. Realism went and my approach changed, props and reflections now welcome. Mannequins, or parts of them, are used a lot in Asia, and sometimes it can be quite a surreal sight - at least for me.
