Most of these images were taken in Thailand, the kingdom of plastic wrapping. It is difficult to imagine that there was a time when paper and other natural materials were used. How did they do it then? Bagging drinks and sauces in plastic requires techniques and skills that are still beyond my grasp. A lot of this wrapping makes sense in a tropical climate, where the sun, heat, dust and ants need to be kept at bay. But bread and other baked goods wrapped in cling film taste horrible. If people would use their own shopping bags, a lot of plastic bags could be avoided.
